La Vergne Police Cars Getting Computers

November 5, 2009

Eight La Vergne Police cars will soon have computers in them, thanks to an approval by the La Vergne Board of Mayor and Alderman. The board voted unanimously this week to get the computers, which will aid the officers in getting information about suspects. La Vergne Police Chief Ted Boyd says the cost for maintenance and fees is $600 per unit per year. A grant paid for 100 percent of the costs of the actual units.

Way to go Lavergne PD. You guys must be watching the cops shows like the Murfreesboro PD and Sheriffs department in Rutherford County does. With the purchase of computers and other gimmicks you see on TV or in reality are toys for you guys to play with. Now you can help run up the Lavergne taxpayer bill and I know the citizens will appreciate you guys looking up info you dont need and are not wupposed to have inviolation of the privacy act. Are there any other toys you clowns in the Lavergne PD want? If so tell the chief and city so you can have more toys to play with. How about a side car for your friends to ride in or for you to take a bath in before you get off work. Could the citizens furnish you guys a driver or have you thought of spending that kind of money the taxpayers have. This is a great time to spend money while people are losing jobs. Go for it.

I hope the La Vergne Police department employees use these computers properly and show the public they are a valuable addition to the department.

    Greater,

(To paraphrase Shakespeare), Me thinks you doth protest too much. What are you really afraid of? That the officers may find out a driver’s record, or real name and address? The same information has been available to the officers in the field for a long time. A great deal of time can be saved for the officers, AND people stopped for traffic violations without the information being broadcast over the radio, for anyone with a “scanner” to hear.

I sincerely doubt that any officer will waste his patrol time in some alley or parking garage playing “World of Warcraft” or even solitaire.

    Old Bill,

If you doubt it, why have some been caught doing it illegally. Do you pay taxes in Lavergne? I doubt it. Me thinks i have the right to protest despite what oyu liberals think.

    greater, or is it grater?

I Am NOT a Liberal by any stretch of the imagination! If anything I am a “Law and Order, Second Amendment believing, Veteran, and Former Police Officer.” I would think that should qualify me as somewhat conservative. Back in the last century when I served as a Police Officer, the N.C.I.C. (National Crime Information Center) system was just starting up. Now it has blossomed into computers with all of that information available to the officer in the field almost instantaneously.

What do you think that you need to hide from the Police? Most of the information on anybody is on the internet anyway, if someone really wishes to dig up “dirt” about you.

Got something to say?
