When they told him "yes", the suspect reportedly went at them with a box cutter and sliced the owner's neck. Despite the wound, the owner was able to get to his pistol and shoot the male at close range.

The wounded suspect allegedly fled, but a K-9 unit later found him nearby. The suspect has been identified as 35-year old Jamie Sellars, and he was deceased when police found him. La Vergne Police note that Sellars does have a police record.

Police received a 911 call of "a robbery in progress" at 10:35 Monday night. They were on the scene almost immediately.

The store owner was treated at-the-scene for his wounds, and was not taken to the hospital.

The incident was captured on surveillance video, and there are no charges pending against the business owner at this time. The store owner did have a gun-carry permit. La Vergne Police Detective Matt Fracker is in charge of the case.

Incidentally, La Vergne Police told WGNS that the store was previously robbed about seven-months ago on August 31, 2014. However, the two crimes were not related.
