La Vergne made it to the top of the list as a Tennessee suburb you can move to without breaking the bank, and was selected as the 21st most affordable suburb nationwide.

Movoto.com examined a total of 139 communities on the outskirts of big cities and ranked them according to the cost of living, cost of food, cost of utilities, housing affordability, property tax rate percentage, and other factors. After data was gathered from the U.S. Census Bureau and the numbers were crunched, La Vergne emerged fourth in the nation for low utilities, 17th for low property tax rates, and 15th for home affordability.

“The city is making progress and it’s showing both at the local level and the national level,” said Mayor Senna Mosley. “It is wonderful to get this kind of recognition from an independent organization. It confirms that La Vergne is a great choice for people who want the conveniences offered by a major city as well as the perks of living in a small town.”

Movoto.com, a national real estate blog that provides detailed housing information using algorithms to weigh categories, said, “There are a lot of reasons people choose to move from larger cities into surrounding metro areas—or avoid large metros altogether. Those include crime, noise, and overcrowding, but another major factor is price. Not only can home prices be significantly higher in the big city, but so can the cost of everything from groceries to property taxes.”
