The Gates Millennium Scholarship is awarded each year to an average of 20 students per state at any university of the student's choice. The program also provides graduate and doctorate school support for its recipients in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. By guaranteeing funding up to a PhD, these scholarships can be worth more than $500,000 apiece. Funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and administered by the United Negro College Fund, GMS promotes academic excellence for outstanding minority students.

Quincy is the son of Charyse McDaniel of LaVergne. He will study Biology at the University of Tennessee of Knoxville as a student in the Chancellors Honors Program this fall.
