Well, that's one way to buy an SUV...

The local Hyundai dealer called Murfreesboro Police on Tuesday to report that a customer recently purchased a car with a hot check. The man who identified himself as "Paul Gillis," according to an official police incident report, allegedly wrote a worthless check that totaled more than $7,500. The man bought a 2005 Ford Escape from the dealer.

The purchase occurred this past August and the check was confirmed to be rejected by the bank on September 1, 2017.

The good news is that the dealer on NW Broad Street still has possession of the Ford Escape title. The bad news, the SUV is no longer on their lot. The man who is accused of writing the bad check evidently lives in nearby Antioch.

In case you are curious, if a bad check is knowingly written for more than $1,000, but less than $10,000, a Class D Felony charge could be pursued. Such a charge could bring time behind bars and costly fines.
