A cashier's check for nearly $4,000 was a fake, according to a recent Murfreesboro Police Incident report.

The report shows that a man by the name of Kevin Laughlin went to the Lowe's store on Old Fort Parkway and presented the check at checkout to buy 16 faucets and one light fixture. The cashier's check to Lowes was from the Expo Commercial Bank in Miami, Florida which is a non-existent bank. However, the store did not know the check was a fake at the time and they had no idea the bank didn't exist.

Quite some time went by before the store realized they had been scammed. By the time they came to the realization they were the victims of fraud, Laughlin was long gone. At this point, the man has not been caught.
