Man found guilty of sexual battery, rape charge amended in Rutherford County

UPDATE: A man by the name of William Irwin who was facing a single charge of rape and three charges of sexual battery in Rutherford County has plead guilty. Irwin plead to three counts of sexual battery and the rape charge was amended to a sexual battery conviction and one of the sexual battery charges was dropped. Originally, he was set for trial in July and will now avoid the courtroom with his guilty plea and conviction.

As of Thursday (6/23/16), Irwin was in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and will soon be transported to a state prison.

According to sentencing information from the Circuit Courts of Rutherford County, he was sentenced to 9-years in prison. However, he will only spend about 3 years behind bars at which time he will serve the remainder of the sentence on probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Irwin currently has a FaceBook page, which he will have to take down according to the laws surrounding a convicted sex offender.
