The shooting victim was transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital around 6:30 Monday night. Tytrone Tipton told police he was about to leave Student Quarters Apartments on Hazelwood Drive when he picked up his pistol and it slipped out of his hand. When he attempted to grab the gun as it was falling, he said it "went off."

The Charleston, Tennessee fireman told officers he was struck in the foot when the gun went off. He said his girlfriend's roommate was home when the incident happened. When the roommate discovered what occurred, she drove him to the hospital.

The case was labeled as a shooting. No charges have been filed.
