Police say they found a gallon sized ziplock bag that contained about a half pound of marijuana when they pulled over a 23-year old Murfreesboro man for a registration violation. Suspect Austin M. Walton was stopped on Sulphur Springs Road. When the police officer approached the window of Walton’s car the officer wrote, “I could smell an obvious odor of marijuana coming from inside the cab of the vehicle.” The man allegedly admitted to smoking some Mary Jane about three hours prior to being pulled over.

A field sobriety test was conducted and Walton passed the tasks without a problem. Here is where the actual problem comes in for Walton... the report showed that the suspect was driving on a suspended license. Walton evidently had bigger issues than a license that was not valid at the time of the stop. Three additional officers showed up and searched the vehicle. A half pound of pot was found in a ziplock bag that was stashed in a backpack behind the driver’s seat. Digital scales were also found which is a typical sign that some level of drug dealing may be occurring. To further put an end to the officer’s hunch, a cell phone was found that contained text messages relating to drug transactions.

The evidence against Walton was carefully collected and the culprit was taken away in the back of a patrol car. He was booked on charges of felony possession of a schedule six drug for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of a prohibited weapon. What was the prohibited weapon, you ask? It was a pipe with an ax head attached to the end of it, according to the arrest report. Walton will appear in court on June 20, 2013.
