Mark Follis named Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year

The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce has named Mark E. Follis, partner with accounting firm Dempsey Vantrease & Follis, PLLC, as the 2015 Business Person of the Year, and will honor him at the Chamber's annual Business at its Best celebration on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Embassy Suites Murfreesboro Hotel & Conference Center.

Follis joined Dempsey Wilson and Co in 1981 while attending Middle Tennessee State University. He became a full-time staff member in May, 1982, and he was admitted as a partner in January, 1989. The firm later changed to Dempsey Vantrease & Follis PLLC in 1998. He has a wide range of experience, from coordinating audits of multimillion dollar companies to tax planning for closely held businesses. His primary area of interest deals with tax planning for closely held businesses including estate planning, corporate tax planning, individual planning, and working with qualified retirement plans. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Follis holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Middle Tennessee State University and serves on the Christy Houston Foundation Board of Directors and SunTrust Bank Community Advisory Board. He previously held board seats for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rutherford County, Stones River Country Club and Murfreesboro Noon Rotary Club and served as an elder of First Presbyterian Church.

He and his wife Laura have been married for 28 years and have two daughters, Rachel and Caroline.
