McFadden School of Excellence teachers Christy Moore and Andy Roach are searching for alumni from the school from 1939 through the 1970s to help celebrate during a special one-room schoolhouse holiday event on Dec. 17.

The teachers recently rediscovered one of the school's original classrooms that still consists of old wood floors and ceilings, plaster walls and a chalkboard. The room was being used for storage above the school's library. The teachers have cleaned out the room and hope to do a re-enactment of a one room schoolhouse on Dec. 17.

The event will involve fourth- and fifth-grade students, and they will not see the room until the day of the party as a surprise, Moore said. Students will do everything as the 1880 children would except for using an outhouse. Lunches will be brought in a pail or basket and the contents will be only food from that time period. The students will also exchange names with the other grade and make a homemade gift for their partner complete in newspaper wrapping paper. Students will learn the fine art of writing thank you notes to their partner using the best penmanship while using a quill pen. Students will have slates, chalk and hornbooks.
