The city of Murfreesboro isn't exactly starting from scratch, but it is set to take another stab at a Middle Tennessee Boulevard improvement project after bids came in 31 percent higher than expected.

Murfreesboro Post writer Sam Stockard reports bids are scheduled to open October 8th. City Engineer Chris Griffith tells him the state has approved the city moving forward with the rebidding of the project and they're anxious to see how they turn out.

Murfreesboro received a low bid of $14.8 million from Jarrett Builders Inc. in early June, higher than the $11.3 million construction estimate made by The Wiser Co., engineers for the project.

City officials said the work was much too important for it to be hamstrung by a high bid. But only minor adjustments were made to the project before bids were sought.
