MTSU Confrontation Between Preacher and Student - UPDATED With Pictures by Kurt Mullen

October 28, 2009

image A preacher from a Central Kentucky evangelistic group was hurt after an altercation with a female student. MTSU Sidelines reports John McGlone fell down some steps at the Keathley University Center Tuesday afternoon (10/27/09) after a confrontation with junior Michaela Morales.

She allegedly pushed McGlone, who was with the group handing out religious literature.

Pinpoint Evangelism had permission to be on campus from the university. MTSU spokesperson Tom Tozer says campus police responded to the scene shortly after the 2:45 incident Tuesday.

Morales claims she acted in self-defense. Witnesses say she said “take your hands off of me,” before pushing McGlone - pictured in “Trust Jesus” shirt below. Police say they had enough evidence from witnesses to arrest Morales on simple assault charges.

She was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and booked on 25-hundred dollars bond. (PHOTO ID: Man Holding Sign in front of KUC - Pictures by Kurt Lee Mullen)

what a nice peaceful liberal gal

  2. Dan Potts on October 28th, 2009 7:41 am

I hope this peacefull demonstrator gets all the attention she so richly deserves for her brave actions. Such as a suspension or expulsion from MTSU and some nice cozy jail time ranging into years. Sadly though given “Higher” Educations stances, they will probably do nothing at MTSU as it does not relate to their 1A Football dreams.

she is purdy. i lik her.

  4. Bruce on October 28th, 2009 8:40 am

From what I understand she was fighting back after being assualted, liberal or not you have the right to hit back.

  5. David on October 28th, 2009 9:17 am

It is refreshing to see she has already been tried and convicted by this board. I have no idea what happened, however I look forward to hearing the final disposition.

  6. Amanda on October 28th, 2009 10:53 am

i was there and witnessed this demonstration. These guys were provoking everything. They said women who were raped were at fault for dressing provocatively. She was coming back at them with “if your daughter was raped, would you ask her what she was wearing?” I applaud this woman for speaking what everyone out there was thinking. She is innocent and I hope everyone see this. If we as a society convict her, we are rooting FOR these people. These people who say women who get raped are at fault. These people who said “i havent sinned in 15 years”. These people who came to OUR campus to condemn everyone around. These people who offended sooo many of OUR fellow classmates. I say, let her go. She only did what so many of the rest of us wanted to do and didnt.

What was the point of this group being on Campus, to needlessly agitate?
    Who next, Reverend Phelps?

  8. david on October 28th, 2009 12:43 pm

Dan, are you one of those peeps that everytime something goes wrong on campus you whine about the football team? What’s wrong with Middle stepping up the program? They had a choice to step up or watch it die. They made the right choice. Why do I think that when you were (or are) a student, assuming you went to MTSU, that you were one of the ones wearing an orange shirt on campus.

  9. Old Bill on October 28th, 2009 4:31 pm

This “educational” facility is largely supported by public (tax) dollars. Shouldn’t “education” be the main goal of the organization? Not football, not who you may or may not love, but rather to make people wiser, better, and therefore happier.

This guy was a complete nut. But from standing there for about 30 minutes, that girl was just as big of a nut as he was! lol there is a time and place to stand up for what you agree with and she came in there looking to act irrational with him.

  11. AshleyChrist on October 28th, 2009 10:05 pm

The signs in these photos are truly disturbing. I am surprised the only damage done was someone being pushed down a short flight of stairs. To me this gathering does not seem appropriate for a “school” setting. A sign that is labeled “god haters” addressing things such as homosexuality, drunks ect. is appauling. Whomever granted permission to this group at MTSU should be ashamed for poor judgement on there part. Especially in a setting where the future of america is furthering there education. I truly give props to Michaela Morales. Most people wouldn’t be as gentle as a shove. These groups should be offering help and guidance rather then hate.

  13. B on October 28th, 2009 11:05 pm

Ashley i agree with alot of what you say but us college folks are considered adults. you got to understand there are crazy people out there. its your choice to walk on by them or confront them like she did. i was offended to by these signs but you dont see me or anyone else up there pushing crazy man around. did he deserve it yes but thats the great thing about a college campus. freedom of speech!!!! i love it lol

  14. Kelly on October 29th, 2009 8:47 am

The way to lead people to Christ (in my opinion) is not by screaming and yelling at people and telling them that they are going to hell before they ever get a chance to hear the story of Christ who died for them. Everyone is a sinner. These wackjobs cause more harm than good when trying be confrontational about their beliefs. Let your actions speak for themselves. I have seen these “preachers” on campus and I turn and run from them faster than you know. No, I am not a liberal. Yes, I am a Christian.

  15. Old Bill on October 29th, 2009 11:30 am

    Kelly,
    AMEN, brother !

  16. Dwight Reed on October 29th, 2009 8:49 pm

As much as I hate to say it, I do think the preacher fellow was wrong with his chanting. I happen to agree with his signs! Being a conservative christian, I’m offended by some of the signs that liberals display. However, as far as chanting and name calling, I disagree with either side going in that direction.
The police should probably have arrested both the young lady and the preacher.

  17. Honest Bystander on October 31st, 2009 12:22 pm

Looks like the Pinpoint “Preachers” posted a video of their “preaching”. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbizOib8UDo

  18. Old Bill on October 31st, 2009 4:17 pm

    What a JERK !

I too am a Christian, and I don’t disagree with “Preacher” McGlone. I also agree with his right to speak in public. However I am not convinced that his sole purpose for “preaching” on the University Campus was to spread the truth. (”Preacher” McGlone, God knows your heart and what you intended.) I watched the Youtube video. McGlone’s posture was that of a man wishing to goad someone into an argument. Well, he got is confrontation !

Paul also provoked arguments, he was stoned, beaten, arrested, and finally killed for his preaching. Somebody needs to tell “Preacher” McGlone that times are different. Sin is no different, but people are. “Preacher” McGlone will serve to permanently alienate more people from the Gospel than he will attract them.

  19. Truth about the mtsu incedent on November 2nd, 2009 9:59 pm

I like how it doesn’t explain that John McGlone told her that it was girls like her who dressed like her who deserved to be raped, she tried to defend herself, and he grabbed her boob, three times she asked him to get off her, he refused… because he’s a pervert… and she acted on self defense. And before that happened pedestrians that passed by him he would yell accusing all of them of being either “Faggots” or “Sluts”. There is a video showing mtsu students applauding Michaela Morales!

Yeah sounds like she really did deserve to go to jail doesn’t it!

If you watch the video, look at what she was wearing! It’s not even showing ANY skin. He was harassing all the student. He got what he deserved this article is BIASED.

  20. Reb on November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm

I was there during the incident and i wouldnt call it grabbing her boob. should she have back up? yes! should he have back up? yes! but lets not call it boob grabbing when that is clearly not what happened buddy.

  21. Andy on November 3rd, 2009 4:19 pm

Let me see if I have this right….
    1. These preachers were calling people hateful names such as “faggot” “homo” “whore” & had a sign that read “God hates Fags.”

    2. All these young people with their camera/video phones
and no one thought to take a picture? a video?

Let’s see the proof, post a photo on photobucket.
Put a video on youtube. Do that and I will agree 100% that these preachers were way out of line and shouldn’t be allowed to be on campus.

You can’t because you’re lying. You’re willing to slander these men to
put you and you’re friend in a better light.

Just like the woman was lying when she said that guy copped a feel
in front of hundreds of angry students, get real. How stupid do you have to
be to believe that. There are witnesses that state she was invading his personal space and he was using his elbow to keep her back.
What a P.O.S. do you have to be to cry sexual assault to cover your butt?
    Typical feminist.

I don’t like these type of preachers either, but I detest liar and hypocrites.

They were quoting scripture, nothing more, nothing less & you want to classified that as hate speech, because you’re closed minded bigots.

  22. Old Bill on November 4th, 2009 12:01 am

I repeat, “Preacher” McGlone was definitely posturing for a confrontation, The “Students” played right into his hands. Bigotry runs both ways in this case.

  23. Andy on November 4th, 2009 12:56 pm

“I repeat, “Preacher” McGlone was definitely posturing for a confrontation, The “Students” played right into his hands. Bigotry runs both ways in this case.”

Show me where. I watched about a hour of a unedited video of him preaching
on MTSU, and he was decidedly un-confrontational, never belittling the students the
    way they were to him.

What I saw were a bunch of rude, disrespectful, brats trying to be funny and just coming off as lame idiots.

At one point two very unattractive women started making out in front of him, trying
to get a reaction, he went on as if he didn’t even see it.

  24. greater on November 4th, 2009 4:37 pm

A lot of the students at MTSU are pure trash and some kind of a free government assistance program. The girls are the guilty party and should be sent to jail.
MTSU is a buden on the taxpayers for the most part due to sorry students and lazy shiftless faculty most of which would pass out if they had to work a 40 hour week. Get rid of most of the students especially those who cause trouble and we would have a better city.

  25. Old Bill on November 4th, 2009 4:56 pm

The whole (and it is obviously edited) Youtube video is a painful hour and a half. Watch the whole thing. “Preacher McGoon” Makes his presentation to us as an edited version. Remember, please, I do not disagree with him, only his presentation.

  26. Worminyabooty on November 5th, 2009 8:15 am

This one time I was carrying a bowl of soup to the table and it was really hot. It spilled and burnt my arm.

  27. Old Bill on November 5th, 2009 12:47 pm

    Andy,

I could agree with you, but then we both would be wrong.

  28. Andy on November 5th, 2009 1:26 pm

In either case, it doesn’t matter, they’re still within their rights.

“The Supreme Court has explicitly held on numerous occasions that speech cannot be restricted simply because it offends people. In ‘Street v. New York,’ 394 U.S. 576, 592 (1969), the court held that ‘t is firmly settled that under our Constitution the public expression of ideas may not be prohibited merely because the ideas are themselves offensive to some of their hearers.’ In ‘Papish v. Board of Curators of the University of Missouri,’ 410 U.S. 667, 670 (1973), the court held that ‘the mere dissemination of ideas – no matter how offensive to good taste – on a state university campus may not be shut off in the name alone of “conventions of decency,”

  29. tim walzer on November 26th, 2009 3:45 pm

How come the only people that are allowed to speak are those in which you agree with. The university should be rewarded for thier open champus. This young woman should be locked up,it is apparent that she can’t control herself,so for her own protectionand every one else’s lock her up until she realize’s this is America; The home of free speech, she could have move on,she stayed and got herself in a whole lot of trouble.these men never stop her,nor did they make her react the way she did, there is no excuse for her behaviour.Let us remeber she is an adult, let’s treat her that way.

My goodness! how some people like to whip a dead horse. This unfortunate situation is long since been resolved.

Got something to say?
