Dr. Lanfear will lead an interactive discussion based on the premise that science is at the heart of a business mindset. Because science is grounded in proven, method-based processes of gathering information and using that information to make decisions, it's at the very the heart of the data-driven business world, according to Dr. Lanfear.

"I've planned an engaging discussion that challenges you to recognize you have a powerful advantage in claiming the scientific mindset," she said.

Dr. Lanfear will demonstrate to attendees they already know about science, even if they don't recognize it, because each of us uses the scientific method of data analysis dozens of times every day in our work and personal lives.

Dr. Alicja Lanfear is a lecturer in the Department of Biology at Middle Tennessee State University. She wears two hats in her professional life: she is an academic trained in forensic anthropology and an educator. Dr. Lanfear was initially drawn to her field of research because of the varying levels of questions to be studied. After realizing that the main consumer of her work is the public, she became a passionate advocate and champion of STEM education and scientific literacy. She's also a mom who observes her small son inherently practicing the same approach to learning that she teaches. Dr. Lanfear was nominated for the Rutherford ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award by the Murfreesboro Branch of AAUW and is the 2017 recipient of that award.
