MTSU's Tucker Theatre will be full of the "Joys of the Season" once again Sunday, Dec. 3, when the university unwraps its special holiday gift of the arts for the community.

The popular event, now in its third year, will begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 to showcase music, art, theater and dance created by MTSU students and faculty, says H. Stephen Smith, a longtime voice professor in the School of Music and interim associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, which presents "Joys of the Season" each year.

"Our premier ensemble in the School of Music, the MTSU Wind Ensemble, will start off with a rousing performance," Smith said, "and then our special guest, (men's basketball coach) Kermit Davis, will be reading 'The Night Before Christmas,' as he did last year. He's back by popular demand, and he's promised to bring some elves with him."

The event also will feature artwork by MTSU students that attendees can purchase.

"Joys of the Season" launched in 2015 as a way to showcase the college's performing and fine arts departments and to express the university's gratitude for decades of community support. Proceeds from the concert and all fine art sales will once again benefit MTSU Arts, which the College of Liberal Arts founded in 2011 to support public performances and exhibits by the Department of Art, Department of Theatre and Dance, and the School of Music.

MTSU Arts performances are sponsored by Ascend Federal Credit Union.

"It's something that we feel is fun for the entire family, something they can bring their children or grandchildren to," Meredith Kerr, liberal arts development director, said of "Joys of the Season."

"There'll be some different acts that will appeal to the older crowd as well. You'll find yourself singing along to your favorite holiday classics and laughing; it'll bring a smile to your face."
