Murfreesboro City School Board Says Goodbye to Longtime Members

With their final Murfreesboro City School Board meeting under their belts, two board members and the city council liaison will be retiring.

Board members Nancy Phillips and Dr. Andy Brown will both be retiring as well as city council representative to the board Ron Washington, who is not seeking another council term.

Director of Schools Dr. Linda Gilbert says their years of service to the city schools hasn't gone unnoticed...

Since the school board doesn't meet in July, the June meeting was the last for this trio of community leaders.

NANCY PHILLIPS

Ms. Phillips was elected to the Board in 2000 and is currently serving her third four-year term. In addition to her duties as a Board Member, she is a voice-over artist and is creator and producer of "Murphry's Burrow," a child's educational program shown on Channel 3.

ANDY BROWN, MD

Dr. Brown retired as the Chief Medical Officer for Middle Tennessee Medical Center in 2012. He served as a pediatrician in Murfreesboro for 20 years. Dr. Brown is currently working to develop Emergency and Family Medicine residency programs for the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and Saint Thomas Health. Dr. Brown was elected in 2012 and is serving his first term on the Board.

RON WASHINGTON

(City Council Liaison) Mr. Ron Washington was appointed as City Council's liaison to the School Board in May, 2006. He is the District Manager for Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation.
