Murfreesboro golfer Jason Millard takes MTSU
July 31, 2008
Hurting has never felt so good for Middle Tennessee State University rising sophomore Jason Millard. The Murfreesboro native, who earned honorable mention All-American honors as a freshman for the Blue Raiders, was low medalist during qualifying for the 2008 U.S. Amateur at Willow Creek Golf Course in Knoxville this past Tuesday (7/29/08). It was a one-day, 36 hole tournament where the temperatures baked at the 95-degree mark. Millard shot a 9-under 131 during the 36-hole stroke play tournament on the par-70 course. The Murfreesboro resident secured one of three qualifying spots for what is regarded as the pinnacle of amateur golf. The U.S. Amateur will take place at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina, August 18-24. The morning after he became the sixth Blue Raider golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur and the third in three years, Millard commented, "I have never hurt this bad afterwards but I’m pretty sore." And who were the other two MTSU golfers who have qualified in recent years? If you said Craig Smith and Kent Bulle, you’re correct!
