Murfreesboro man arrested after accident while children in car

A 39 year old Murfreesboro man has been charged with DUI and two counts of Reckless Endangerment after an incident unfolded on South Church Street in the area of Kroger this past Sunday.

Reports from the City Police Department indicate that Thomas Wayne Ingram was involved in an accident and left the scene, heading towards Veterans Parkway in the Barfield area. Officers made contact with Ingram and noticed his GMC Acadia had major front end damage. When talking with the subject, police wrote in a report that Ingram admitted to the accident.

Inside the SUV with Ingram was a child under the age of 7 standing the in back seat. Also, there was a 5 month old sitting in a car seat that was "improperly secured" facing upwards and "wedged between the front and back seat of the vehicle."

It was later confirmed through dispatch that Ingram had a revoked license. He also failed to show proof of insurance to authorities.

Police called for paramedics to transport Ingram and the children to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital to be treated for minor injuries received in the crash. Officer Patrick Doughtie wrote, "While being transported, Mr. Ingram couldn't stay awake and during the investigation appeared to have pinpoint pupils along with slow and slurred speech." The report that WGNS obtained also read, "Mr. Ingram admitted to snorting approximately .5 grams of heroine at approximately 11:00 AM. The accident happened an hour and 40 minutes later this past Sunday.

Witnesses told local authorities that prior to the accident, they saw Ingram swerving from lane to lane.

Once at the hospital, the mother of the children arrived to take custody of the kids.

In addition to being charged with DUI and two counts of Reckless Endangerment, Ingram was also charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident and Failing to Show Proof of Insurance. He was booked into the local jail under a $20,000 bond. He is due in court on August 9, 2016. He remains jailed today (5/4/16).
