image A Murfreesboro man has been charged with burning the LaVergne home of his in-laws.  An accelerant was used late Thursday night (7/3/08) to start the blaze at both the front and rear of the home at 4011 Finegan Court.  LaVergne Police Chief Ted Boyd told WGNS News that Samuel A. Jenkins had an active order of protection again him by his wife. Boyd says Jenkins is still hospitalized at Vanderbilt Medical Center…

Boyd says as soon as medical officials release him, he will be transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Reports indicate that the father of Perkin’s estranged wife jumped from a second floor balcony of the burning brick home and got a ladder to rescue his wife, daughter, along with five-year old and 3-day old grandchildren.  Samuel Jenkins allegedly fired gunshots at family members as they fled the burning home.  The 34-year old suspect then fled the scene.  Around midnight Friday morning (7/4/08) deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office stopped a vehicle matching the description on Lowry Street, behind K-Mart in Smyrna.  None of the family members were injured, however one firefighter had to be treated at StoneCrest Medical Center for heat exhaustion.  He was treated and released.  Samuel A. Jenkins is charged with five-counts of attempted first-degree murder as well as arson
