Last month Murfreesboro Medical Clinic hosted a special gathering for families in the community to adhere to meal prepping techniques, and gain a healthier lifestyle by listening to the ideals of Gloria Payne. Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (MMC) Weight Loss & Wellness hosted this event, where nearly 100 participants attended to hear Payne share her expertise provided by years practicing as a dietetic scholar.

During this informative and interactive session Payne explained the importance of planning healthy, balanced meals in which ever season of life one might find themselves. "Failing to plan is planning to fail," Payne put simply. She continued to share that while preparing meals ahead of time may seem like a daunting task upon expedition, it serves families well by saving stress from the reoccurring "what's for dinner" epidemic that haunts those in the midst of chaotic weeks.

Beginning the week with batch cooking can assist in lowering stress when it comes to meal planning. Batch cooking simply means preparing a larger amount of meat and vegetables at the first of the week so that meal panic is eliminated, fast food trips are limited, and creativity can be expanded! For example a whole chicken can be prepared in the crockpot, and then used for multiple dishes throughout the remainder of the week. Dishes might include chicken casserole, chicken enchiladas, or simply chicken breast with veggies; easy!

Throughout her lesson Payne also stressed the importance of a balanced diet, exercising moderation and shopping efficiently. MMC Weight Loss & Wellness partnered with Gloria because these are all skill sets in which they offer training and guidance through their program. By pairing these disciplines with exercise and medical supervision, WL&W successfully encourages the community to become their healthiest selves.

Shelly Purnell, MMC Weight Loss & Wellness Office Manager believes "we provide the tools and resources necessary to help families lead healthier lives and ultimately get their life back, as a family."
