An attempted suicide was stopped, thanks to the watchful eye of a roommate in Murfreesboro.

Evidently, the roommate was inside the house when she looked outside and noticed her friend had literally hung herself from a tree branch. The roommate ran outside and lifted the woman to the point where she was able to remove a scarf that was tied around her neck as she hung from the branch. Once on the ground, the roommate described her friend as being purple. She was able to perform CPR on the woman until she started breathing.

After the 31 year old woman regained consciousness, she ran to the home. Once inside she fell to the floor, which is where she was met by paramedics who transported her to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Again, thanks to a fast acting roommate, the woman who tried to commit suicide survived and is now getting help.

Evidently, suicide is on the increase in Murfreesboro and surrounding areas. With that being said, the CDC reports the spike started in 2008. The same report shows that whites and Native Americans are about two to three times more likely to commit suicide than any other group in America.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported this year, "In any given day, three people in Tennessee die by suicide."
