Randy Caldwell, Executive Vice President of Ragan-Smith Associates, registered landscape architect and a 23-year resident of Murfreesboro, announced the Dec. 5, 2016 opening of a new office for the firm in Murfreesboro.

Ragan-Smith Associates is an 83-year-old firm with expertise in land planning, civil, transportation, environmental engineering, construction engineering inspection, land surveying, Reality Capture and sustainable design. Murfreesboro is the third location for Ragan-Smith, including the headquarters office in Nashville established in 1933, and an office in Chattanooga established in 2011. The office initially will be staffed by 10 Ragan-Smith professionals, including the leadership team comprised of Caldwell, registered landscape architect; Kevin Guenther, associate; and Chad Clark, civil engineer and project manager.

"What makes us unique in Murfreesboro is that we are a one-stop shop for land planning, landscape architecture, land surveying and civil engineering services," Caldwell said. "Simply put, we improve the value of land by creating better uses for it. Our professional staff takes the seed of an idea from a private developer or city staff member and brings it all the way to fruition."

Caldwell and Guenther are currently leading three land planning studies in Murfreesboro, including the Murfreesboro Design Guidelines Study, the Historic Bottoms Planning Study, and the North Highland Avenue Planning Study, as well as the Lowry Street Revitalization Overlay Study in Smyrna, among many others in the region.

"Establishing an office in Murfreesboro is the next logical step for us in providing ready access to our professional staff for government, private developers and other organizations up and down the I-24 corridor," Caldwell added. "We are experts at understanding what both governments and developers want, carefully listening to the public and stakeholder groups, and developing and executing a visionary plan that is at once practical, aspirational and actionable."
