Neighbors Help La Vergne Police Nab To Armed Men
November 20, 2009
A La Vergne resident cautiously watched as a car came down the street with its headlights turned off. He knew trouble was ahead when he saw two men coming toward him from the vehicle. The glow from distant street lights showed that they were armed. One demanded the resident to empty his pockets. It appeared that he was following their instructions, but what they could not see was that the man had a pistol. In fact, the weapon was just purchased and as it slid quietly from his pocket, he fired in self-protection. Neighbors head the shots and called police. 19-year old Shane Singleton and 17-year Tevin Battle were arrested. Both are repeat offenders. In fact, Battle was earlier tried as an adult for a similar crime. And Singleton reportedly told authorities that he was on probation for 12-years on a conviction of especially aggravated robbery. L-R Mugshot ID: 17-year old Tevin Battle and 19-year old Shane Singleton.

Got something to say?

Repeat violent offenders………..perhaps after 25 years in prison they will no longer be a threat to our community. How do you receive 12 years of probation for an ESPECIALLY AGGRAVATED crime? The suspended sentence seems to be counter productive to society, they should have been in jail instead of given the opportunity to repeat violent crimes against our citizens.
If the criminals had been killed what would have become of the citizen? Somehow I doubt that this individual would have received probation for firing in self defense.
Our courts should set a new precedent, violent crime should be met with strong sentencing regardless of age, upon conviction.
These two, miscreants need to be put away (if not put down.) They have shown their value to our society. Thank goodness their “target” chose not to assume the role of “victim” and had armed himself. Sadly, the “victim” had not sufficiently familiarized himself with his weapon to make his shots count.
Dear Glen:
How about capital punishment? Does anyone know of a case in which a dead criminal has ever committed another crime?
