New Ford to be Available at Alexander Ford Soon
July 28, 2010
Ford Motor Co. debuted its new and improved 2011 Explorer Monday, and the automaker says it’s not kidding about the SUV being new and improved. The Explorer was one of Ford’s most popular models during the 1990s and throughout most of the last decade, until oil prices soared. As a result, motorists dumped their SUVs and moved on to so-called crossover vehicles that provided both the roominess they sought and better fuel economy.
Ford says that the new Explorer, built on a car chassis instead of a truck chassis, delivers a smoother ride and gets better gas mileage. At 5,000 pounds, it also weighs a literal ton less than its predecessor.
Three models will be available this winter at Alexander Ford in Murfreesboro with a base price of $28,190. The Explorer also will be sold in 90 countries as Ford seeks to expand its market globally.

Got something to say?

So, essentially they created a crossover, and put the Explorer name on it, rather than updating the SUV that the name is associated with in people’s minds?
Yea Vince, like they took the “Freestyle” and renamed it “Taurus X” and took the “Five-Hundred” and renamed it a “Taurus” to improve sales. The technical aspects aren’t as important as the branding. Ask any kid about whether they want a completely functional piece of clothing at a low price or something with “Tommy Hilfiger” or “Calvin Klein” name on it at twice the price.
