"They are a godsend," Fitzhugh said of the selection of Salandy and Fly. "I believe they will bring new skills and dimensions to the Adult Detention Center that we haven't had before."

Salandy is a certified National Institute of Corrections Jail Administrator, an American Correctional Association Professional and a Tennessee Corrections Institute Certified Instructor.

He has more than 24 years of experience in corrections. He started his career with the New York City Department of Corrections. He joined the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center in 1995 and became superintendent of the Rutherford County Correctional Work Center in April 2010.

Salandy organized faith-based programs and expanded community involvement at both the detention center and work center. The programs benefit inmate rehabilitation and successful re-entry of inmates after release.

Fly is a certified auditor for the American Correctional Association and a National Institute of Corrections direct supervision trainer. He is expected to graduate from Trevecca Nazarene University with a degree in management and human relations.

He joined the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center in April 1997 and worked his way up to captain where he developed the budget and monitored expenses. He coordinated training and supervised 30 employees.

Fly served as accreditation manager for the Correctional Work Center where he ensured the center complied with the ACA standards. He revised and implemented policies and procedures, served as grievance officer for the inmates and conducted numerous trainings.
