Reports indicate that in the last two years the number of students experiencing homelessness just in Rutherford County has grown from 817 in 2014 to over 1200 this year.
Free clothing and non-perishable food items will be distributed to those in need this Saturday (Oct. 24, 2015).
The free USDA Commodity Food Program will be handing out free food in September.
Christy Sanford who is with the non-profit told News Radio WGNS that those needing food don't have to show proof of income to receive groceries.
The USDA Commodity Food Program provides non-perishable food items to eligible households through a partnership with the USDA and the Tennessee Emergency Food Assistance Program. Households must meet USDA income guidelines.
The Second Harvest Truck will arrive at 8 and the food will be handed out shortly after it is organized. Volunteers are needed.
The pantry has collected more than 12,000 pounds of food since opening and has served more than 700 students who’ve found themselves in need of a decent meal but without the resources to feed themselves.
The Tennessee Farm Bureau Women would like your help in collecting food for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations will be taken at all Rutherford County Farm Bureau Offices.

“We do scheduled and unannounced inspections to ensure rigorous safety and sanitary standards are always followed,” said Hugh Atkins, director of the TN Department of Health Division of General Environmental Health.
