Again, the seat belt and DUI related checkpoints are all this weekend on Broad Street near State Route 840 and Rutherford Boulevard near Broad Street in Murfreesboro.

The THP calls their current campaign a 'no refusal' weekend. The "no refusal" campaign means that if a driver is pulled over for suspected drinking and driving they cannot refuse to take a blood test.

Plan for checkpoints in LaVergne as well:

The La Vergne Police Department will be looking for drunk drivers in the city tonight (Friday, 8/29/14) and Saturday (8/30/14), through alcohol saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

Increased police patrols will be conducted from 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. both days. The La Vergne Police Department will monitor traffic for signs of impaired driving within city limits and along Interstate 24. These saturation points will also focus on speeding, safety belt, and other road violations.

Friday checkpoints are scheduled for Waldron Rd. and Murfreesboro Rd. Saturday checkpoints are scheduled for Stones River Rd and Nir Shreibman Blvd. as follows:

  • Friday, August 29 from 10:00 - 11:30 p.m., then 12:30 - 2:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, August 30 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The cost of the saturation patrols is covered through a Governor's Highway Office Safety grant. The grant funding pays for overtime of law enforcement officers to patrol the streets looking for drunk or impaired drivers.
