Oil-based paint only will be collected and properly disposed of on Saturday, March 26 from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at 1140 Haley Road in Murfreesboro. This collection is for households only. Oil-based paint is only considered minimally hazardous and is no longer accepted at the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

Refer to the label to determine if paint is either latex or oil-based. The clean up process for latex paint is just soap and water, but the clean up for oil-based paint, also referred to as alkyd, requires solvents to clean brushes and rollers

This collection is in compliance with standards set by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

Latex paint, also called acrylic paint, will NOT be collected at this or any other event since it is not actually a hazardous material. Instead it is a nuisance waste that should be dried at home before disposing of in the regular trash.

If it is not dried before disposal it will leak and splatter onto roads and cars during transport to the landfill. For more information on proper solidification and disposal methods please refer to the county website at www.rutherfordcountytn.gov/environmental and then click on the "Education" link.

The next collection is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2016 to properly dispose of oil-based paint.
