Lace up your shoes and start your Memorial Day early at the annual Middle Tennessee Youth for Christ Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk in downtown Murfreesboro. The family-oriented event is a major fundraiser for the organization while offering participants and the community an opportunity to honor and remember those who have so bravely served our country.

This year's race/walk is slated for Monday, May 25, (Memorial Day) at Central Magnet School, 701 E. Main Street. Race start time is 7 a.m. with on-site registration from 6 to 6:45 a.m.

Walkers are welcome to complete the entire route, but shorter distances will be clearly marked. All skill levels and ages can participate and enjoy the morning. The level course is certified, professionally timed and winds through the beautiful, historic heart of the city. Strollers and people-friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. Patriotic clothing is the dress code of the day with a prize presented for the best red, white and blue attire.

Additionally, organizers will have a "Remember Our Heroes" photo wall located on the grounds to display pictures of veterans. Participants and the community can electronically submit an image of a veteran before the race or bring it the day of the event. Digital pictures can be emailed to Vickie Edwards, event coordinator and YFC executive director at vickie@mtcampuslife.com and taken home that day.

Entry fees are $35 for runners and $10 for walkers. Fees apply to all participants 10-years-old and older. A $10 discount will be given to active or retired military or those who preregister by March 31. Early registrants are guaranteed a race goodie bag and tee shirt. Information on family discounts is available by contacting the YFC office at 615-890- 3203.

This year, registration and fund-raising couldn't be easier. YFC has partnered with Fundeasy.com, so everyone can have a personal fundraising page on line. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to raise funds. A direct link to register and set up a fund-raising page is available at YFC's website www.mtcampuslife.com.

Awards will be presented for the best overall male and female runners, as well as the top male and female race finishers in each age division and for top fundraisers. Also, a random drawing is planned with other prizes for participants.
