Pedestrian in Barfield accident involving a dump truck dies

We have an update for you on the accident involving a dump truck and a pedestrian that took place this past Friday in the Barfield community. Evidently, the 20-year old who was hit by the truck has died.

Fredrico Martinez, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, was walking westbound on Barfield-Crescent when he walked into the path of a passing dump truck traveling in the opposite direction. Investigators say the driver was unable to avoid hitting Martinez.

Martinez was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter, but later died from injuries sustained in the accident. No charges will be filed against 58-year old Robert Dean Wrather who was driving the dump truck. Sgt. Bill Miller with the Highway Patrol told WGNS, "It appears that the driver of the dump truck was not at fault."

Martinez was a second year student at MTSU. He was majoring in MetaTronics. Services have been set for Thursday with a funeral to begin at 6pm at Rucker Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro.

Preliminary Incident Description: The pedestrian was walking along the shoulder of the right side or westbound side of Barfield Crescent Road. The driver of vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on Barfield Cresent Road when the pedestrian for unknown reasons entered onto Barfield Crescent Road directly into the oncoming path of vehicle 1. The driver of vehicle 1 was unable to take any evasive actions to avoid the pedestrian.

*As reported above, the 20-year old pedestrian died later in the week after he was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
