An afternoon downpour dropped the temps from the sweltering point to the mid 70s and set the mood for memorable Friday Night Live on the Murfreesboro Square featuring the music of Utopia.

Just like clockwork, the first Friday night of the month rolled around and Main Street Murfreesboro's family gathering on the square around the historic courthouse was echoing with a blend of soul, the oldies, R&B and more.

Lawn chairs were squeezed tightly at the inner circle parking area and the space in front of the stage allowed locals to trip the light fantastic.

The whole community came together for an evening of fun, and it was all free.

Dr. Gloria Bonner was overheard, "Don't you just love it, this is why Murfreesboro is such a great place to live."

Charlie Pitts, the local barber who wrote and sings "The Swap'n Shop Song", was sitting on a bench swapping memories with brothers Sam and Fred Goodwin. It was about as close to a mix of Mayberry and the cover of a magazine with a Norman Rockwell drawing on it.

Main Street continues that mood with the Saturday Market around the courthouse from 8:00AM until noon each Saturday through September.

And don't forget Main Street's "The Summer Party". This year it's on Saturday evening, July 28, 2018, at the home of Jonathan Harmon, 746 East Main Street.
