There are options for children in our community with risky behavior or perhaps a background of troubles. The program is called the Volunteer Challenge Academy.

Lea Powell helps to organize each session and she told WGNS News they help 16 to 18-year-old "At Risk" youth. The program "Live-in" is open to teens from Rutherford County and beyond...

Powell said the program is great for teens who are truant from high school or may not finish school.

The TN Volunteer Challenge started its first class this past spring and the students, ages 16 to 18, will graduate December 16, 2017.

This program is FREE and all students live on campus and are away from their homes.

The facility is located at:

117th Regional Training Institute Tennessee Army National Guard
618 Fitzhugh Blvd.
Smyrna, TN 37167
