Rain or Shine - Hometown Heroes Walk

"Rain or shine the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will be held on Friday, April 21," announced Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer.

The Child Advocacy Center is celebrating Child Abuse Prevention Month with the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children on Friday morning, April 21 at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, downtown on the square. Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m., speakers at 11:45 p.m., and the Walk will begin at 12 noon. New this year, there will be shuttles from the Child Advocacy Center to the Civic Plaza at 10:30, 10:45, 11:00, and 11:15 a.m. The event will conclude with a picnic lunch at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd.

In the last 17 years, the Child Protective Investigative Team, consisting of the Child Advocacy Center, the Department of Children's Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney's Office have worked together to investigate and prosecute 12,760 child abuse cases and assisted over 17,906 individuals. Department of Children's Services protects children. Law enforcement investigates the crime and arrests perpetrators. The District Attorney's Office aggressively prosecutes offenders. And the Child Advocacy Center helps children and families heal from the trauma of the abuse.


"I am still praying for a beautiful sunny day on Friday," said Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer. "But bring your umbrella just in case we get a sprinkle or two."
