Spring is in the air again, and Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran advises Murfreesboro motorists of areas they might wish to avoid.

City Construction Projects

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 pm to 6:00 am: There will be alternating lane closures on NW Broad Street, Memorial Blvd, Old Fort Pkwy and Ridgley Road for construction of the new Overpass. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Broadmor Blvd is closed to through traffic for construction work. W Lytle Street at Broad St is opened to traffic and is restricted to right-in and right-out movements only. Westbound traffic has been shifted to the north side to align with the newly constructed ramp. On Broad St, the northbound and southbound left turn movements can only be made during a protected turn signal phase. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

W Lytle Street Roadway Improvement Project (Baker St to Church St)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: W Lytle Street will be closed to through traffic between Walnut St and Maple St for construction work. N Maple St between College St and Burton St and W Lytle St between N Maple St and N Walnut St will be closed to through traffic until March, 2017. Access driveways to local businesses will be kept open. On Saturday, March 18, Walnut St will be closed between Lytle St and Burton St. Starting, Tuesday, March 21 through March 28, Walnut St will be closed from the County Clerk's office entrance to Burton St. for underground utility work. Access to local businesses and driveways will be kept open. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Rutherford County Judicial Center Project (between Burton St and Lytle St)

Expected Lane Closures: Wednesday, July 20, 2016 - Friday, March 31, 2017: As part of the Rutherford County Judicial Center construction, Burton St between Maple St and Church St will be closed to traffic to make roadway improvements. Burton St traffic will be detoured onto College St. On Monday and Tuesday, between 5:00 am and 10:00 am, N Church Street between County Parking Lot and Burton St will be closed for concrete work. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Middle Tennessee Widening Project (Greenland Dr to E Main St)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: Traffic on Middle Tennessee Blvd has been shifted to the east side and reduced to two-lanes two-way between E Main St and Greenland Dr. E Lytle St is closed at Middle Tennessee Blvd. The section of E Lytle St between N Bilbro Ave and Middle Tennessee Blvd is only open to local traffic. Appropriate traffic control signs and message boards will be in place.

Comcast Underground Service Work (Highland Ave just north of E College St)

Expected No Lane Closures: Saturday, March 18, Weather Permitting, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm: Contractor for Comcast will be boring across Highland Ave and installing Comcast residential service to a home on the east side of Highland Ave. There will be no lane closures. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Water Line Tie-in Service Work (Avenue Way near Conference Center Pkwy)

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Thursday: Contractor for a private development will be installing water lines and tie-ins on Avenue Way near Conference Center Pkwy. Avenue Way will be closed to through traffic. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Asplundh Tree Trimming Work (Mercury Blvd between Second Ave and SE Broad St)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm: Contractor for Murfreesboro Electrical Department will be trimming tree limbs westbound along Mercury Blvd between Hancock St and SE Broad St. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.
