Rock Springs Elementary art teacher Merin Smith is one of the sponsors for the Random Acts of Kindness club. Smith reported that the club has just completed the 4th annual Make a Difference Day.

This is a school wide event that focuses the whole day on kindness and helping others. Classes had a packet full of classroom kindness ideas and they also got to hear a guest speaker from Project 615 talk about the ways that they help the community. Amy Tompkins and Jessica Pollard are the other two teachers who sponsor the club.

One of biggest events that Rock Springs Random Acts of Kindness Club members participated in was making health care kits and Emergency Room kits. The students collected donations all week leading up to Make a Difference Day to go into the kits. On Make a Difference Day, classes got to assemble the kits.

The health care kits contained a bar of soap, shampoo, socks, a tooth brush, toothpaste, floss and snacks. These kits will be passed out in the Murfreesboro area by Greenhouse Ministries.

As for the Emergency Room kits, they contained a coloring book, crayons, small toy, a snack and bottle of water. These will be passed out by the health department. Typically, if you go to the Emergency Room you are in a hurry and do not come prepared with ways to entertain a sick or injured child. Rock Springs is hoping to brighten these kids day.

Merin Smith said that the children did an excellent job.
