While WGNS typically does not cover rape related stories due to the fact that they are so personal for the victim, we felt that we should report this incident to make others more aware of the problem. In 2013 (most recent years for statistical reports), the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations reported that 1,783 "Forcible Rape" cases were reported in the Volunteer State. Only 644 were "Cleared."

In this most recent story in Murfreesboro, a woman visiting a local hotel in the area of Medical Center Parkway says that she was raped by an acquaintance. The 20-year old victim told officers she came in contact with the male culprit who was volunteering with a convention that was recently in Murfreesboro. Throughout the evening, the acquaintance became overly possessive of her, according to a police incident report. The man later served her several energy drinks, at least she thought they were energy drinks until blacking out and awaking in a hotel bed with the man on top of her.

The police report states, "The complainant then started crying and after approximately 10 minutes, the suspect finished and began apologizing for his actions." The female victim later escaped the hotel room and called police.

At this point, an arrest has not been made. Authorities only know the possible suspect by his nickname, which we are not releasing to protect the identity of the victim.
