Another administrator promoted by Robert Arnold has been fired. On Thursday (1/12/2017) Major Derrell Cagle was relieved of his duties of overseeing the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

A termination letter from Deputy Chief Keith Lowery states, "Due to persistent deficiencies in management...failure to follow the appropriate procedures...it is hereby determined that your services as the facility administrator are no longer needed."

This was completed just hours before Mike Fitzhugh reported for work Friday morning (1/13/2017) as the new sheriff after being appointed by the county commission.

The firing was done by the deputy chief, because Fitzhugh is unable to make legal actions until he is boned. That will take will be completed after the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday.

Under Major Cagle's watch, the 958-bed Rutherford County Adult Detention Center was decertified. Some of that brought on by suicides and attempted ones by inmates, irregularities seeing that his staff followed strict government requirements in checking on inmates and other procedures.

Background On Cagle

Former Major Derrell Cagle was promoted as administrator of the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center in March, 2016. He joined the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office in 2010 as a captain in the Warrants and Records Division, and later transferred to the detention center.

His career began with the Eagleville Police Department, and later as a deputy with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. Prior to coming to Murfreesboro, he was a police trainer for five-years in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Department of State.
