Red Cross Ready For 500 At MTSU

American Red Cross and MTSU personnel are currently setting up shelter facilities in the university Recreation Center, an official Red Cross shelter in Rutherford County. As many as 1,200 Hurricane Gustav evacuees may be transported to middle Tennessee. Red Cross officials say these persons will be taken first to shelters in Nashville, then Smyrna, and any overflow will be transported to the MTSU Recreation Center. The MTSU Red Cross shelter can house as many as 500 people. Officials are asking people interested in volunteering to call the American Red Cross-Heart of Tennessee Chapter in Murfreesboro at 615-893-4272.
