Students from Redeemer Classical Academy were recently awarded 92 ribbons at the Tennessee Junior Classical League Midstate Competition in Nashville, Tenn.

Comprised from 7th grade - 11th grade students, RCA's team had 18 students competing overall while the competition totaled 240 students among 14 mid-state schools.

The team won the majority of their ribbons in the academic category while others were in the arts, poetry, costume and essay categories. The Redeemer TJCL team also received a first place Sweepstakes award for their division as they earned more points than any other team in the AA division.

In addition, RCA 8th grade student Fiona Bell received a second place Sweepstakes award. The criteria for this award is based upon the total number of points earned by each student in the entire competition.

Lower and Upper School Instructor Darla Tucker works with the RCA's Latin program and the school has participated in the competition for four years now alongside other area schools such as Hume-Fogg, Franklin Road Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy and Battle Ground Academy.

"It's a great opportunity to take learning out of the classroom. All of the students are well-rounded, and I'm proud of their work," Tucker said about the experience.

With another chapter in the books, the team still has more work to do. After the mid-state program, the next step is the state competition in Clarksville, Tenn. and it will take place during April.

"We're looking forward to the state competition and aim to do our best there as well," Tucker added.
