When two Georgia inmates escaped from a prison bus allegedly leaving two dead guards in their wake, the reward for information leading to their capture rose quickly.

Authorities say Ricky Dubose and Donnie Rowe overpowered their guards during a prison transfer on June 13, 2017 and used the guards' guns to kill them before fleeing in a carjacked vehicle.

Authorities announced two days later that the reward had risen to $130,000.

The inmates were caught hours later in rural Rutherford County along I-24 eastbound near the Epps Mill Road area. Their capture came after reportedly stealing a car and holding a man and woman hostage in Bedford County. The duo ran from authorities in Rutherford County after stopping on the side of the roadway. They evidently ran to the driveway of a home and surrendered to a homeowner who was outside and next to his vehicle that resembled a police cruiser.

Putnam County Georgia Sheriff Howard Sills said that by the time they were caught, the reward had risen to $141,000. The money is being paid out to several people, but authorities declined to say exactly who's getting it, saying the recipients wished to remain anonymous.

What were they locked up for?

Rowe was serving a sentence of up to life in prison for armed robbery and aggravated assault in a 2001 case. Dubose was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft in 2014. He also was convicted of theft and identity fraud in cases from August, 2010.
