Local athletics were celebrated at the May 16th meeting of the Rutherford County Commission.  County commissioner and WGNS’ own Jeff Jordan issued a resolution of recognition for the 2012/2013 Riverdale Lady Warriors Basketball team, who were ranked as national champions by ESPN and MaxPreps.  The Budget, Finance, and Investment Committee approved the budget for the Smyrna/Rutherford Co. Airport Authority, authorized an application for the Christy Houston Foundation Grant, for a rescue truck for the fire department and rescue boat for EMS.  They also authorized a grant for litter and trash collection along county roads, as well as a contract with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for litter removal along state highways.  The Public Works & Planning Committee entered into an agreement with the State of Tennessee and the Department of Transportation to maintain traffic signals from West of SR-850 to East of SR-10, and the county took stock of their insurance providers for government employees, authorizing eight separate agreements which will take effect on January 1st, 2014.
