The Riverdale Warriors ended last season on an upswing, beating Siegel and Smyrna before not making the playoffs. This year, they open the season with a win at Siegel by a final score of 21-to-nothing. It was a hot, humid night with lots of injury time outs for cramps and the game was riddled with penalties. There were 25 penalties by both teams combined.

After a scoreless first quarter, Riverdale wasted no time in the 2nd quarter, scoring on a 3-yard run by Artavious Collier and that score stood through the first half. Collier would score again with 8:36 left in the third. But the crushing blow to any chance of a Siegel comeback came with 5:57 left in the game as Warrior quarterback Cortland Owens calls his own number...

Bryan Barrett with the call on WGNS. Owens ended the game 13-of-21 with 188 yards passing and 29 yards rushing with that touchdown. Collier rushed 25 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns. The Warriors emassed over 400 yards in total offense.

Stars quarterback Jordan Middleton was 5-of-18 for 41 yards passing and rushed for 39-yards. Siegel had just 175 yards in total offense. Greedy Howse did have an interception for the Stars, who fall to 0-and-1. They will host Ooltewah next Friday night and it will be carried live on WGNS. Riverdale, now 1-and-0, will host Bradley Central.
