A road worker was killed around 5:15 Thursday (4/13/2017) night on I-24 eastbound (toward Chattanooga) near Joe B. Jackson Parkway (84 mile marker).

A contract road worker with Superior Traffic Control was placing construction signs in the median when a motorist reportedly slammed on their brakes in an effort to avoid hitting the stopped vehicles in the roadway in front of them. Unfortunately, they swerved into the median, and hit a worker. That person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the tragic death, and they warn motorists to slow down in construction zones and be alert to the potential of stalled or stopped traffic and especially construction workers.
