Rutherford County Commission, 11-12-09

November 12, 2009

It was a packed house at the November 12th meeting of the Rutherford County Commission.  Resolutions of recognition were passed for Fernando Bryant, David Price, and the Siegel High School Band, and two public hearings were held; one to amend the flood hazard district regulations, and another to rezone land and issue a conditional use permit for an area along Jefferson Pike.  Carolyn Overton and Lori Callender were appointed as Judicial Commissioners, and Vincent Windrow was appointed to the Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Lou Ann Zelenik, whose term is set to expire in August of next year.  Additionally, Carter Woodruff and Craig Lynch were both reappointed to the Consolidated Utility District Board.  Vacancies were announced on the Community Care, Beer, and Agricultural Boards, to be filled at next month’s meeting.

The commission passed a resolution authorizing the 2009 Homeland Security Grant Application and execution of a grant contract with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, and voted on a resolution to rescind the September 17, 2009 Legal Services Agreement so hotly debated at last month’s meeting.  Big news for Nissan; the issue of Industrial Revenue Bonds in an amount of up to $2.5 Billion was approved for significant expansion of the Nissan North America, Inc. Operations in Smyrna to provide for the new manufacturing of car batteries and electric vehicles.  A representative from Nissan was on hand to answer questions, and assured everyone present that the community would be very pleased with the progress.  The commission also agreed to provide services from the county’s engineering department to assist in inspections to be done on streets, roads, and drainage developments in Eagleville.  Finally, next time you’re driving in the Thompson Farms subdivision, watch your speed; a new 20 mph speed limit has been set for that area, and 40 mph for along Couchville Pike.
