State Representative Tim Rudd (R-Murfreesboro), State Representative Mike Sparks (R-Smyrna), State Representative Bryan Terry (R-Murfreesboro), State Representative Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro), and the Tennessee Department of Education today announced that Rutherford County Schools and Murfreesboro City Schools have both received district growth funding to support education initiatives in Rutherford County.

Specifically, Rutherford County Schools received $2,415,000 and Murfreesboro City Schools received $667,000. This funding is a direct result of a Republican-led effort to not only fully fund education in Tennessee but also provide $18 million to cover school district growth.

These significant investments in many Tennessee school districts will allow growing schools to maintain necessary resources so that they can continue offering quality education for our state's young leaders.

"As we prepare our young Tennesseans for successful lives, it is important that our teachers have all the resources they need to educate our growing student population," said Representative Rudd.

"As a long time education advocate, I am pleased to see that Rutherford County schools are receiving these much needed funds. We must continue to fight for our teachers and students as our community continues to grow," said Representative Sparks.

With the growth in Rutherford County and Murfreesboro, additional resources are needed for our students. I am honored and proud to be a part of the effort to secure these important investments in our schools," said Representative Terry.

"Rutherford County has seen tremendous growth over the last several years, and our education system, business-friendly climate, and distinct communities will continue to attract many," said Representative White. "These funds will assist our schools in continuing to maintain the exceptional education offered to the students of our community."

This funding has been so well received by parents, education officials, and teachers that Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam added another $18 million in growth funds to his proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget.
