However, between October 15 - May 15, every year state law requires citizens to obtain a permit from the Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry before conducting any open burning of wood debris. Permits are free of charge.

You must call 1-877-350-2876 to obtain a permit. Days outside of the official burning season do not require a permit.

City of Murfreesboro Ban Lifted:

Effective Friday, December 9, 2016, Fire Marshal Carl Peas has lifted the burn ban for the city of Murfreesboro.

"We received significant rainfall; therefore conditions are safe again for outdoor burning," said Peas.

Peas reminds those who wish to burn, that they must obtain permission daily from Fire Administration in order to burn. "You must call 615-893-1422 between 8:00 and 10:00 am and be prepared to give your name, location, and a phone number before receiving permission to burn," said Peas.

It is necessary to call in daily because the Fire Marshal does not allow burning some days due to certain weather or atmospheric conditions, and especially when high winds are expected. If you need to burn on the weekend, you must contact MFRD Headquarters at 615-849-2661 and speak to a Captain.
