This Saturday (7/30/2016) will be TOMMY SANFORD DAY. The public is encouraged to be at the Almaville Volunteer Fire Department, One Mile Lane, at 10:00AM for naming the road "Tommy Sanford Memorial Mile", honoring his 52-years of service to our community.

Property Assessor Rob Mitchell and State Representative Mike Sparks will be there to make the tribute.

Sanford passed away last August at the age of 75. This Rutherford County native served for 22 years as the Property Assessor and was the founder of the Almaville Volunteer Fire Department. His service to the community includes the Rutherford County Commission, Rutherford County Rescue Squad, a Mason with the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner with the Al Menah Temple.

When Mitchell took office, he told NewsRadio WGNS, "Tommy was there for me when I needed him. He had been through every situation regarding property assessment, and he gave me sound, level-headed advice."

State Representative Sparks noted, "Tommy was a humble servant - it was not his way to seek attention for himself. He set about to make things better for our community one step at a time."

Mitchell said, "Tommy may not be with us in body, but he is most assuredly with us in spirit. It is through community service and dedication to community improvement that we honor Tommy. He lives on through his deeds."
