In another phone scam, someone claimed to be the Murfreesboro Chief of Police when they called a retired resident who lives in the Garrison Cove subdivision.
According to the victim, he first received a phone call from someone claiming to be with the IRS. The con-artist started asking about out of country purchases. The unknown man told the local resident that he owed money in taxes on those purchases. When the victim hung up on the fake IRS agent, he received a second call.
Call number two came from someone claiming be the “City of Murfreesboro” Chief of Police. The caller advised that the victim was in trouble because he hung up on “his officer” and that he would be arrested. The victim hung up on the second scammer as well and then called the real Murfreesboro Police Department. The call was deemed to be a total hoax.
No arrests have been made.
The number that the call came from is likely a spoof. It was 615-846-48**.
