On Wednesday (9/27/17), Rutherford County Schools in the Smyrna area were placed on a precautionary code yellow lockdown. The lockdown happened after law enforcement notified the schools that they were pursuing a suspect in the area.

County Schools Spokesperson James Evans told WGNS, "This is standard procedure and is only precautionary. There was never anyone on campus as the situation was in no way school-related. The principals are sending home messages to their parents to let them know about the precautionary lockdown."
