Scuffle & Gunfire in Attempted Robbery & Assault at College Grove Apartments

A man from Joelton had to fight off a suspect, despite being assaulted and shot at during an incident at College Grove Apartments. According to a report from Murfreesboro Police Officer Rafiq Qadir, 20-year old Dylan Valentine of Eatons Creek Road in Joelton was on his way to his girlfriend's apartment on Lascassas Pike. When on the second floor just before midnight, a man coming down from the third floor grabbed Valentine and put him in a choke hold.

Valentine says he was able to get free and then a fight ensued. The black male suspect then reportedly demanded money from him after knocking him to the ground, while reaching for a gun. Valentine told Officer Qadir he then tackled the suspect and after a scuffle, the gun went off.

Both men continued to fight, eventually both falling down a flight of stairs at the apartment complex. That's when the suspect fled the scene in what was described as an older model Ford Focus.

Valentine's girlfriend, 20-year old Kandra Laird, reports witnesses the struggle. Also, the bullet from the discharged gun was found lodged in the wall of her laundry room.

The suspect police are looking for is a black male, around 5-foot-9-inches, two-hundred pounds and had short braids or dreads. At the time of the incident, he was wearing khaki shorts and a black and grey hoodie.
